For Parents and Community

Project EAT reaches out to parents and community members to inspire them to become participants in their own nutrition education experience.  The Project utilizes both structured and informal settings to create dialogues with community members that continue

Parents and community members can participate with Project EAT:

Adult Healthy Living Classes  - A series of 5 weekly nutrition education classes that include physical activity, nutrition education lessons, hands-on cooking activities, and nutrition activities for their children

Community Educators – Free training to become Nutrition Educators within their own community

Nutrition Connection: A Family Day in the Garden – Families come to support projects in the school garden with project staff, school site faculty/administrators, and their children.  Nutritional tastings are prepared and shared for all to enjoy.

After-School Programs - The after-school programs invite parents and community members to cook nutritious recipes with their children and then make them at home as a part of the Harvest of the Month program.  This program delivers fresh fruit and vegetables monthly and comes with hands-on cooking activities.

Food & Fitness Festival – The festival invites families to learn more about nutrition and physical activity through tasting and examining plant parts, identifying healthy and unhealthy fats, jumping rope and learning about the energy it takes to exercise and much more.

Champion Moms/Dads – School site activities are an excellent place to volunteer time and become a “Champion” for nutrition and physical activity.  Cooking in the classroom or nutrition education in the garden are both examples of how a Champion Mom or Dad can support the program.
