After School

Project EAT provides nutrition education and physical activity promotion for after school programs through a partnership with Youth Enrichment Programs and Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro. After school participants taste fresh fruits and vegetables through the Harvest of the Month program and cook nutritional recipes with an emphasis on the featured Harvest of the Month item. After-school program staff receive professional development on integrating cooking and physical activities into their weekly schedule.

The Food and Fitness Festival is a hands-on nutrition education and physical activity event that invites parents, children and community members to taste, experiment, and experience nutrition and physical activity stations. Parents are an important link to impacting their child's health and Project EAT works to incorporate parent participation in the after school community. The Food and Fitness Festival was developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science as part of the Family Health Project.
